Grapes and Wine

As early as the Han Dynasty, Zhang Qian envoy to the Western Regions, grapes have flowed into the Central Tang. In the Tang Dynasty, because of Emperor Taizong's love, he ordered many grapes to be planted and brewed into wine. In addition to foreign warfare and trade at that time, Central Asia's winemaking technology continued to be introduced, and more superior technologies were derived.

At that time, the countries in Central Asia are essential production places for Tang, especially Iran conquered by Arab Empire. There were many pieces of literature related to wine and grape garden. Wine became the Tang Dynasty's social ethos, but it also became the Tang Dynasty poets' subject. For example, in Wang Han’s "Liangzhou Verse", the sentence "Grape Wine with a Luminous Cup" compares wine with the "Luminous Cup", and the luminous cup was a symbol of the upper class in the Tang Dynasty, reflecting the status of wine in the Tang Dynasty.

Besides, "Liangzhou Verse" and Li Xin's "Gu Cong Jun Xing" mention wine and war.  Because most of the early Tang Dynasty's wines were seized by war, it was a symbol of war. Later in the poems, poets used it to represent war.
